The prayer machine gives a person a bowl. Inside the bowl is a piece of paper with a prayer intention written on it, saying Please a prayer for:……. The person prays the prayer and writes down what the he or she wants others to pray for. This project is a product of a study of the Poor Clares nuns in Eindhoven. During the investigations of the nuns, and their culture, I found that these nuns were very connected to a community that came to them for prayer and support. Even though the nuns have sworn never to leave the monastery, they decided on the 23/07 to pack their things and go back to their motherhouse in New Mexico and leaving the community behind.

The prayer machine is intended as a substitute for the nuns and attempts to connect the community and make it take over the role that the nuns formerly filled.

The projects is based on serveral visit in the monstry interveiws with both the Poor Clares nuns and people from the community. It all resulted in the prayer machine and a book that highlights this downgoing way of life both in side the walls of the monestry and the comminuty that surrounds it.
